📜 A Brief History

Founded in the late 1800s, Commerce got its start as a trading post and agricultural hub. The arrival of the railroad in 1887 brought growth and prosperity, and by 1894, the town became home to East Texas Normal College—now known as Texas A&M University-Commerce. Education, agriculture, and a strong sense of community have shaped the identity of Commerce for over a century.
